Studio Chizu’s Mirai Of The Future has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Motion Picture- Animated category.
It’s running against Pixar’s The Incredibles 2, Walt Disney Animation Studio’s Ralph Breaks The Internet, Isle Of Dogs, and Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. The film has also been nominated in the Best Animated Independent Feature and Outstanding Achievement for Writing in an Animated Feature Production categories at next year’s Annie Awards.
Fathom Events and Gkids are screening the film in 700 movie theaters across the US, and the final screening is on December 8th, with the US dub getting screened.
The film opened up #2 at the Japanese box office this past July. The film had it’s premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, during the Directors’ Fortnight independent section, which is held parallel to the film festival.
The award show is happening on January 6th, and it will be interesting to see what animated feature wins. But if you want to know a little bit more about the film, you can read the synopsis below:
“When four-year-old Kun meets his new baby sister, his world is turned upside down. Named Mirai (meaning “future”), the baby quickly wins the hearts of Kun’s entire family. As his mother returns to work, and his father struggles to run the household, Kun becomes increasingly jealous of baby Mirai… until one day he storms off into the garden, where he encounters strange guests from the past and future – including his sister Mirai, as a teenager. Together, Kun and teenage Mirai go on a journey through time and space, uncovering their family’s incredible story.
