As it turns out: it’s not just the Attack on Titan mangaka who’s drawing fanart for Spy x Family. Especially given how popular it is. Other mangaka is trying their hand at it too, including the artist for Blue Lock.
Spy x Blue Lock?
Twitter user mana has just posted a new piece of official fanart for Spy x Family. This time by Yusuke Nomura: the artist behind the sports thriller manga Blue Lock. According to the Twitter post, Spy x Family mangaka Tatsuya Endo used to work as an assistant to Blue Lock in his early days (just as Endo did for Attack on Titan mangaka Hajime Isayama). Thus, it’s only fitting that Nomura return the favor with this fanart, which you can see above.
The fanart in question depicts a pair of characters who haven’t technically appeared in the anime yet (although one of them did show up in voice form over the telephone), but are very prominent side characters in the manga. The man on the left is Yuri: Yor’s younger brother, while the woman on the right is Midnight (who goes by the alias Fiona Frost): a fellow Westalis agent of Loid. Neither of these characters has actually met each other in the canon story as of yet.
However, both of them are united by one thing: an obsessive love of their target. The hiragana in their eyes spelling out “suki” (Japanese for “love”) is a bit of a dead giveaway. For Yuri, it’s a rather unhealthy devotion to his older sister Yor (which even his coworkers find to be creepy and disturbing). For Midnight, it’s her fellow agent Loid. I’ve no doubt that when they eventually meet in the story, chaos will ensue. Especially if they decide that their goals mutually benefit each other enough to cooperate with one another. It’s an unlikely situation, given that they are on opposite sides of this conflict. But it could happen in Spy x Family. Only time will tell, really.
