Well, it is time to put another year in the books, (thank god) so that means it is time to look back at 2021 and try to remember the good this. But really, other than that pesky COVID 2021 was not a bad year for us action figure collectors. From Diamond Select Toys to NECA we got a ton of amazing action figures thrown at us. Now I know that everyone’s list will be different but here are the top 10 action figures that made it into my collection for 2021.
Top 10 Action Figures Of 2021
When it comes to action figures we all know there are so many out there. From Star Wars to Plunderlings there is no shortage of figures to add to your collection. So for this year’s top 10 list, I added figures that made it to my collection, that will at some point, and ones that are just plain fun. So here it is my Top 10 Action Figures of 2021.
10. Plunderlings
OK, when you first see the $39.99 price tag on these little pirate monster action figures you are not sure what to expect. But once you take your Plunderlings out of the box you can see why so many people love these little monsters. Not only are they fun to pose they also come with some great accessories to add to the action. Also if those accessories are not enough you can order even more. For those that like to pose, take pictures, and go on road trips with their action figures these are a must-have. You can find Plunderlings at your local comic shops and most online to retailers.
9. Godzilla ReAction Figures – Shogun (Super7)
If you are a Godzilla fan you know why these figures made my top 10. First off you can never go wrong with Godzilla. These 3.75″ Godzilla ReAction Figures are inspired by the vintage large format Shogun Godzilla toy and features a spring-loaded flame tongue. From the Dark Green to the glow-in-the-dark Godzilla, you will want all these action figures in your collection. You can check these figures out over at Super7.com.
8. Transformers R.E.D. The Transformers: The Movie Coronation Starscream Starscream (Hasbro)
OK, the first thing I hear when I bring up this action figure is, ” But it does not transform.” Well, I always have the same response and that is “So What?”. I mean how often do you sit there and transform your collection? Not only does this Starscream R.E.D. action figure looks amazing, it will take you back to the 1986 classic Transformers: The Movie. What really makes this figure stand out is the crown and cape he wears right before Galvatron ends his short time as the leader of the Decepticons. Starscream is a Walmart exclusive but there are a few still available at Hasbropulse.com.
7. FUGITOID Vacuum-Metallized Figure (Kevin Eastman Studios Exclusive)
This sleek and shiny Fugitoid pose was developed by Mirage Studios resident artist Michael Dooney who created the concept art and turn around drawings for this particular Fugitoid toy. These unique figures were commissioned by TMNT co-creator Peter Laird and manufactured by Playmates Toys in 2009. They were never released in stores, so this is a Mirage Studios/Eastman Studios exclusive item and is only available here.
Also yes I know that this figure is non-articulated, but it made my list anyway. As of now, it is currently out of stock but keep an eye on it, the FUGITOID figure has come back in stock a couple of times.
6. Star Wars Black Series Boba Fett Deluxe (Hasbro)
There are many Boba Fett action figures out there but this one inspired by Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is a must-have for Fett fans. Hasbro’s Star Wars The Black Series Boba Fett is detailed to give you his look right before he fell into the dreaded Sarlacc. Boba Fett features great articulation and comes with five different accessories so you can relive that Sail Barge scene. The good thing is we now know what happens to Boba Fett after that fall.
5. Boba Fett (Prototype) Jumbo Figure – 2020 Holiday Gift Exclusive (Gentle Giant)
Clothed in a replica beach towel that was featured on the 1978 costume screen test, this Jumbo Prototype Boba Fett figure is a must-have for any Fett collector. Yes, this was the December Holiday Gentle Giant gift exclusive, but collectors did not receive these figures until 2021. The Jumbo Boba Fett features a working rocket-launcher mechanism and comes in a retro-style packaging that is resealable. This figure was only limited to 500 pieces and now can only be found on the secondary market.
4. Tron (Retro) Deluxe Action Figure Box Set – San Diego 2021 Exclusive (Diamond Select Toys)
If you are a Tron fan, then you more than likely remember the TOMY Tron Action figures from 1982. Well, thanks to Diamond Select Toys, you can celebrate this year’s 40th anniversary of Tron with their Tron (Retro) Deluxe Action Figure Box Set – San Diego 2021 Exclusive. These 7-inch figures of Tron, Flynn, and Sark replicate the 1982 classic toy lineup. This set is limited to 3000 and is still available at DiamondSelectToys.com.
3. Transformers Studio Series 86 Voyager Autobot Hot Rod Action Figure(Hasbro)
We are heading back to 1986 again to Transformers: The Movie. Some love him and some hate him, but there is one thing we can all agree on is that Hot Rod makes a great action figure. That is why if you are a Transformers collector you need the Transformers Studio Series 86 Voyager Autobot Hot Rod Action Figure in your collection. Not only does he transform to his classic sports car but also comes with the Matrix of Leadership, 2 movie-inspired blasters and 2 blast effects, and features buzz saw and spark welder hand attachments. You can pick up Hot Rod at Hasbro Pulse and most toy retailers.
2. Ghostbusters Plasma Series – The Family That Busts Together Action Figures (Hasbro)
From one of the best movies of the year to one of the best toys of the year the Ghostbusters Plasma Series The Family That Busts Together action figures are a must-have for any Ghostbuster fan. This two-pack features Phoebe and the ghost of Egon Spengler brings you one of the most iconic and emotional scenes from Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Packed with a bunch of accessories and multiple points of articulation, you have a lot of different ways to pose these figures in your collection. Now the bad news is that this is a Target exclusive and sold out extremely fast. Let’s just hope Hasbro decides to release some more in 2022.
1. Gargoyles Ultimate Goliath Action Figure (NECA)
This year’s number was an easy one for me and if you are a fan of the Gargoyles then you know why. NECA really set the bar high for the Gargoyle lineup after the release of their Goliath action figure. First off the figure comes in an amazing-looking box that is display friendly. But this is one figure you will want to set free! Goliath stands around 8-inches tall and has a wingspan of 16-inches wide. Goliath also comes with a jalapeno pepper, a book, and interchangeable heads and hands. If you are n action figure collector and like the Gargoyles this figure needs to be in your collection. You can pick Goliath at most online toy retailers and local comic book shops.
