[Warning: contains spoilers for The Mandalorian Chapter 14, “The Tragedy.” Read on at your own risk.] Okay, okay, fine. Gideon took Grogu. We get it. But is that really the tragedy of Chapter 14? The remnant Empire destroyed the Razor Crest, after all. We also saw the sad end of beloved Mandalorian weapon, the Pulse Rifle. Today we mourn.
Obituary
Amban Phase-Pulse Blaster, beloved weapon of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, perished unexpectedly December 4, 2020 while visiting the planet of Tython. Pulse Rifle, as it was known, was 42 years old.
Born November 17, 1978, Pulse Rifle first appeared in the highly regarded Star Wars Holiday Special as the weapon of another Mandalorian bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Following an implicit acknowledgement from Darth Vader after the Battle of Hoth, the weapon appeared to have gone into retirement. Once thought lost, it reappeared first on the social media platform of Instagram in 2019. The appearance came in advance of The Mandalorian, with whom Pulse would share a close relationship until its death. It was a spiritual weapon, being part of the Mandalorian religion.
Pulse Rifle, dead at 42
Devoted in its service to Din Djarin, and later Djarin’s adopted son Grogu, Pulse was a steadfast weapon. Both protector and problem-solver, Pulse Rifle once even joined forces with former Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune. Together they helped repel marauders from a peaceful village on the planet of Sorgan. Otherwise, you’d seldom see it anywhere other than slung across Djarin’s back, ever at the ready.
The Mandalorian’s cherished weapon met its unexpected end in a vicious attack from Imperial warlord Moff Gideon on December 4. Also lost in the attack was the Razor Crest and other, miscellaneous members of Pulse’s weapons cache brethren.
Pulse Rifle is survived by: Din Djarin (father); Grogu (brother; adopted), 1B94 (blaster; brother), Beskar; Vibroblade; Flamethrower; and various whistling birds.
There will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers and condolences, please honor Pulse Rifle by obtaining a Nerf tribute to the fallen hero. Details for doing so may be found HERE. R.I.P. Pulse Rifle. You will be deeply missed. The Mandalorian, friends, and all who knew you mourn your tragic loss. This is the way.
