Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn Lead The Enterprise

TVLine recently unveiled an exclusive look they got of the pair in a scene from the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Discovery. The image shows Number One pushing a tablet towards Pike during a meal in the mess hall.

In the original series, their relationship, at least as far as we knew, was just professional, but TVLine is suggesting that they could have a bit of romance there as well.

Mixing Business and Pleasure?

Personally, I’m not a fan of this trope, it always ends up going down the same road. How do they manage both relationships? Do they have to hide it from everyone? How does that affect them? Do their emotions for each other impede their judgement when making tough decisions?

We’ve seen it time and again on numerous shows and it generally always plays out the same way. Maybe the writing team can come up with a way to make it more interesting, but, we don’t even know for sure that’s a thing (though as noted by TVline, the Star Trek Database does claim she had a “secret attraction” to him.

Number One

Human female lieutenant and second-in-command under Captain Christopher Pike on the Enterprise NCC-1701. Number One boasted a confident, unflappable manner, even in dangerous situations. In one such instance, she and Yeoman Colt were trapped by the Talosians, who hoped that Captain Pike would take one of them as a mate. She also harbored a secret attraction to the captain.

This could just be a look of “here’s the information, look at it yourself”. Whatever the case is, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out. Star Trek: Discovery comes back on January 17th, 2019.

So, what do you guys think? Should Pike and Number One be more than just shipmates? Let us know!
